Chinese and Belorussian airborne troops concluded their first joint training drills earlier this month, the Chinese Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

The 83-strong Chinese special task force arrived in Baranovichi on July 5 and flew back to Urumqi, capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Saturday evening after training with Belorussian paratroopers in Belarus' Baranovichi, according to the ministry.

During the 10-day exercise, paratroopers from both sides overcame challenges of language, geography and climate to accomplish the planned task with close cooperation and coordination, the ministry said in a press release.

It was not only the first drills conducted jointly by soldiers from the Chinese and Belorussian armed forces, but also the first occasion for Chinese paratroopers to leave the country for joint training with foreign soldiers.

The two armed forces trained together in counterterrorism, and the two-phased drills included training in mixed units and comprehensive exercises, according to the ministry.

The first phase of the drills included an obstacle course, hand-to-hand combat, parachuting, combat firing and anti-terrorism tactics. During the second phase, paratroopers encircled and eliminated "terrorists" by combining parachuting and tactical air landing operations.

The joint-training exercise serves to consolidate the traditional friendship between China and Belarus and enrich cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, according to the ministry.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) agreed on Friday to establish a strategic defense dialogue mechanism in order to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and increase mutual trust and understanding between the two nations.

The agreement was announced in a joint press communique issued Friday amid the ROK's National Defense Minister Kim Kuan Jin's China visit.

According to the communique, the dialogue will take place every other year in the form of mutual visits, with the first round of dialogues set to be held this month.

The two sides reached a series of agreements, including one that will establish joint short-term education program for younger officers in both countries' armies, the communique said.

Both sides voiced their commitment to firmly oppose any actions that might jeopardize peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and expressed their hope that concerned parties will promote cooperation and expand understanding in the matter, the communique said.

China and the ROK both agreed in the communique to step up cooperation in peacekeeping, disaster relief, humanitarian aid and anti-piracy campaigns, particularly those that are taking place in the Gulf of Aden and waters around Somalia.

Kim arrived in Beijing on Thursday for his first visit to China after being appointed as the ROK's defense minister last year.

During his visit, Kim met with State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie and Chief of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Staff Chen Bingde. He is also scheduled to visit a number of military facilities.

SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- China disclosed a J-10 fighter jet base to the visiting South Korean defense minister last week, a defense official in Seoul said Sunday, a move signaling Beijing's intent to further strengthen bilateral defense and military exchanges.

South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin visited a Chinese air force training base in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, on Saturday, the last day of his three-day visit to China for talks with his Chinese counterpart, Liang Guanglie, the official said.

During his visit to the base, about 200 kilometers south of Beijing, Kim watched the takeoff and landing of a J-10 jet, a China-developed fighter with an operational radius of 1,250 km, before having lunch with Chinese military officers there.

Liang said during his dinner with Kim on Friday that the J-10 jet base has never disclosed to a foreign country, according to the official.

Kim told South Korean reporters Saturday after the trip to the base that the J-10 is similar to the U.S.-built F-16 fighter, noting that China seems to be pushing for its exports.

On Friday, Kim and Liang reaffirmed their commitment to peace in the region and said they will strengthen their cooperation to maintain stability.

In a joint statement following their talks in Beijing, the ministers said they are "opposed to any provocative behavior that harms the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula."

Kim's trip was the first to China by a South Korean defense minister in two years and the first since the two deadly North Korean provocations last year.

On the morning of July 19, the Pakistani naval ship formation composed of the "Shamsheer" guided-missile frigate (Hull No. FFG-252) and the "Nasr" comprehensive supply ship (Hull No. A-47) led by the Pakistani Navy Commodore Mohammed Amjad arrived in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province, to start a four-day-long goodwill visit.

Sun Dezhong, deputy commander of the North China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), presided over a grand welcoming ceremony at the wharf, and Vice Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila, deputy chief of staff of the Pakistani Navy, who arrived in Qingdao earlier, attended the ceremony. Afterward, senior officers from the Pakistani side called on Tian Zhong, commander of the North China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, and Zhang Hui, vice mayor of the Qingdao Municipal People’s Government.

The year of 2011 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Pakistani diplomatic relations and the "Year of China-Pakistan Friendship", and the visit of the Pakistani naval ship formation to Qingdao is a part of the commemorative activities.

During the four-day-long goodwill visit, the Pakistani officers and men will visit Chinese naval ships and the Naval Submarine Academy, tour the Qingdao Beer Museum, the Olympic Sailing Center and the Mt. Laoshan among other scenic spots, and hold friendly sports activities with the officers and men of the PLA Navy. At the end of the visit, the Chinese side and the Pakistani side will hold joint maritime drills.

It is learned that the two Pakistani naval ships on visit to Qingdao were both made by China, and the "Nasr" comprehensive supply ship ever visited Qingdao in April 2009 to participate in the multi-national naval activities in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese PLA Navy.

HOTAN, Xinjiang - Police shot down 14 rioters who attacked a police station in Hotan city of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Monday noon, a Communist Party official in Hotan said Wednesday.

The official, who declined to be named, said the attack left four people dead, including an armed police officer, a security guard, a woman and a teenage girl. At least three others were injured.

Rioters hacked security guard Memet Eli to death while they were trying to break into the Na'erbage police station shortly after 12 pm Monday, said Ablet Metniyaz, chief of the police station.

"He is just 25. He planned to get married in September," said Abliz, an officer of the police station.

In addition to Eli, an armed police and two civilians died in the incident, according to Metniyaz, 38, who has been serving as chief of the police station for three years.

The rioters had taken six civilian people and some police staff hostage, and set fire and smashed things in the police station, leaving damaged computers, printers, furniture and clothes scattered around, Metniyaz said.

Shouting frantic religious slogans like "Allah the only God", the rioters ran to the top floor and police opened fire to stop them, said an anonymous policeman with the police station.

When the attack took place, most of the police station's staff were following Metniyaz to visit local residents in an effort to seek their opinions about safeguarding public security.

The rioters had occupied the police station when Metniyaz led his team back.

"I shouted in Uygur language, asking the rioters to stop doing things that run against the law and to settle disputes in peaceful way. But they kept casting gasoline bottles and rocks to us," said Metniyaz.

"I saw the rioters hacking innocent people, some of them got injuries on their faces, noses and ears."

Rioters also attacked the adjacent industrial and commercial bureau, injuring two staff there.

All the rioters were male aged between 20 to 40. They spoke with non-Hotan accent and wore sneakers -- "probably to prepare for running away," said Metniyaz.

Kill The Wabbit

Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit. Kill the wabbit?!

The news of the PLA 6th LH Regiment, Guangzhou MR, test fired the Red Arrow ADK-10 ATGM against "sea targets", (the Chinese HellFire AGM114) was reported widely by the Chinese media back on July 11th, it takes several days before the watered-down version of the same article is released in English.

The ADK-10 is normally associated with the WZ-10 attack helicopter program, it seems that the PLA LH retrofits it into the existing WZ-9 fleet.

The targets at sea are hit by projectiles.

The aviation force of the Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted new weapons and ammunition combat power generation drill on July 10, 2011.

At 09:00, 18 armed helicopters entered the pre-determined air space.

The armed helicopters first launched chaff bombs from the sky at a low altitude less than 100 meters, and then fired multiple rocket shells and laser-guided missiles successively in the state of level flight. All the rockets and missiles hit the targets on the sea surface.

Sun Delong, deputy director of the Army Aviation Department of the PLA General Staff Headquarters, told the PLA Daily that during this drill, the army aviation troops tested tactics apt to be used in real combats such as tactical strikes by four helicopters in quick turns and launching of new-type laser-guided missiles by two helicopters with ground irradiation, which improved the maximum operational effectiveness of the helicopters.
