PR photos of the day: Twelve H-6K bombers fly over South China Sea

They are from the 108th Air Regiment, 36th Air Division (Bomber) Central Theater Command Air Force HQ.

The 36th commissioned in August 1952 with a batch of 10 Tupolev Tu-4 strategic bombers and took part in the 1959 Tibet operation.

Great historical photos. Is that Tu-4 AWACS for real?

Yes it is real. That said, the PLAAF was not happy with its performance and soon abandoned the project. You can find it at the Beijing Aviation Museum today
