Community policing through superior firepower

6000 RPM Gatling gun on display during the China International Exhibition on Police Technologies & Equipment Expo (here)

Chongqing Jianshe Industry Group's CS/LM12 7.62mm Gatling gun has been in service with the PLA airborne for some time now.  It is now trying to hawk this monster to police and law enforcement department worldwide.  I'd wonder who would buy it for street patrol.

Ok, maybe this guy.....

and the 15th airborne corps cop

It seems that the China navy is not the only one with a corvette feve.

Taiwan To Build ‘Stealth’ Warship Fleet

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan is to build 12 new “stealth” warships in reaction to China’s naval build-up, the island’s navy announced May 15.
Navy Capt. Chu Hsu-ming told reporters Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co, a private firm, has been awarded a Tw$890 million ($30.1 million) contract for the construction of the first 500-ton corvette with delivery slated for2014.
The prototype will be the first of 12 such twin-hulled boats, which the designer said are hard to detect on radar.
“After the prototype is completed and tested, its specifications may be fine-tuned for the mass production of the (remaining) ships,” Chu said.
Each of the vessels will be armed with up to eight Hsiung Feng III anti-ship supersonic missiles as well as eight Hsiung Feng IIs.
Ties between Taiwan and China have eased markedly since Ma Ying-jeou of the China-friendly Kuomintang party came to power in 2008, ramping up trade and allowing in more Chinese tourists.
But Beijing still refuses to renounce the use of force, even though Taiwan has been self-governing since the 1949 end of a civil war, which has prompted the island to continually modernize its armed forces.

That is one slick looking cat

Chinese Maritime Surveillance (CMS) to commission 36 cutters in 3 years.

Chinese Maritime Surveillance (CMS) to commission 36 new cutters from 2010 to 2012 including seven 1500 ton class, fifteen 1000 ton class and fourteen 600 ton class "to better protect China's maritime interests".

Not sure what is the urgency but it sure helps to have a strong domestic shipbuilding industry  to handle bursting demands.

056 Class Corvette Project Update

According to folks from Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai, the lead boat of the 056 Class Corvette will be launched "within days".  Given Hudong's track record, this should come as no surprise.

Second boat from Guangzhou HuangPu shipyard is not far behind

Could this be the first photos of Type 056 light corvette under construction?

We will know soon enough.

Type 056 Light Corvette.

A model of the new Type 056 Light Corvette was presented to Hong Kong University by the deputy commander of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, Major General Wang Junli (here) on November 4th 2010. Since then, it was speculated that this 1500 ton corvette could be the possible replacement of the Jianghu class workhorse. This could be credible since the two leading Chinese naval affairs magazines covered the Type056 in their current issues.

Chinese shipyards are capable of building such a corvette -- it bears a resemblance to the Thai Navy's Pattani-class OPV which China exported in 2006. The Type 056 would up-gun the Thai OPV with four YJ-3/C803 ASM and a FL-3000N RAM launcher aft.
