Q-5J (30093 and 30094) twin-seater trainer of the 82nd Attack Regiment, 28th Attack Division, post for photo after replacing the old JJ-6 that has been in service for more than 30 years. In addition to a new fleet of "modern" fighters, the PLAAF is also procuring more specialized training assets -- a trend that is ignored by some of the PLA watchers out there.

On a related note a few days ago huitong updated his site with a picture of a scale model of what he claims to be the upcoming 'Hongdu Q-6' attack aircraft, based of the L-15
yes, saw that..... it is just a rumor at this point.
Its far from confirmed, we don't even know where this scale model is from from Huitong seems to be sticking with it and he's right like.... 85% of the time
To be honest, I am not sure the PLAAF can afford a new jet project given how many projects that are in the pipe.
RMB could be better spent on improving JH-7 or adopting FC-1.
The PLAAF is sort of operating too many types of jet aircraft, logistically it must be very expensive but the fact is that multi-role fighters cannot perform the same tasks as a dedicated attack aircraft with a long loiter time that can provide direct air support to ground forces, the A-10 and Su-25 have proven to be extremely valuable air assets in conflicts in the past decade.
The 82nd regt has JH7s, this is obviously a good training platform for those leopard drivers.
