The “Beyond 2012C” airborne force confrontation drill was held at the Nanjing Army Command College of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from August 24 to August 27, 2012.
The red side, a division of the airborne force, carried out a four-day-long independent confrontation with the blue side composed of over 60 experts and professors from the Nanjing Army Command College of the PLA.
“This is the PLA’s first division-level airborne force command and confrontation drill of command-and-staff organs with the assistance from military college, and it is also the first time to conduct drill with new airborne force command information system,” said Chen Zhaohai, director of the Military Training Department of the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA.
A total of more than 100 officers and men from leading organs of the PLA general headquarters/departments, leading organs of the PLA Air Force, troop units and academies observed the drill at the site.
The drill focused on nine subjects including three-dimensional confrontation over seizing and controlling targets, military stronghold controlling and joint counterattack confrontation. It is of far-reaching significance in strengthening the information-system-based combat awareness, improving the command skills, deepening the theoretical research and enhancing the combat capability of the airborne force.
