PLAN corvette 582 commissioned today (2/24/2012) marking it as the lead ship of the 056 corvette project to enter service.  Given the fact that here are a total of 20 hulls of type 056 under various stage of construction, expect to see more them patrolling around China's "near sea" soon. 

On a related note,  corvette 596 (11th hull over all) launched yesterday in Guangzhou.

This recently posted photo of a nearly complete 056 in Dalian is suggesting that there are now four known naval yards engaged with the 056 class corvette project.

The commissioning of 056 class covette 586 in Wuhan

How could we have missed this one?

While everyone is focusing on the four Type056 Class corvettes under construction in Guangzhou and Shanghai, a fifth type 056 corvette is now commissioned in Wuhan.  This unexpected development is suggesting that there are three known Chinese shipyards involved with the 056 class corvette project.

Expect a long and serial run of this new class of ship.

056 Class Corvette Project Update

According to folks from Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai, the lead boat of the 056 Class Corvette will be launched "within days".  Given Hudong's track record, this should come as no surprise.
