A prototype of J-15 with arresting hook retracted beneath the redesigned tail cone has been spotted at Shanyang Aircraft Company (Here). With all the attention paid to the Naval Aviation building up recently, it might not be a coincidence that the PLAN is not building any more destroyers. They just don't have a bottomless funding as others have suggested.

I see the blurry outlines of the canard foreplanes, the slightly shorter tailcone, but for the life of me I can't make out any tailhook.
Given that this aircraft is clearly a new SAC product/prototype, it is encouraging that they are constructing a carrier-borne fighter, that said, it is a disappointment to find that one of the aircraft (J-15) supposed to be China's next generation 'stealth' fighter turns out to be just another modification of an established Russian design.
hmmm, I can't seem to find the arrest hook anywhere either. Is the J15 really suppose to be stealth? I hope it is but I wouldn't get my hopes up if it's based on the SU-27/30 family. But nevertheless, a naval flanker with modern avionics & weapon suite would pack a lot of firepower for the PLAN.
Where is the bit chunky undercarriage for a naval version?
