Decommissioning of the Type83 152 mm self-propelled howitzer has started.

The Type83 is a simple design really --  Norinco just mounted its towed 152mm Type 66 into a 6 wheeled track chassis to give the proved Type66 an extra mobility.   It entered service in 1983 and after 35 years, it is now being decommissioned. 

During its peak, there were 396 examples of Type83 in service across 22x Artillery Abteilung, each with 18 guns. Type83 is generally found in 1st Artillery Abteilung, Artillery Regiment, organic to a Divisional HQ.
