Chinese Police is testing a new 9mm Revolver

The so call Type 06 revolver actually looks like a knockoff of Smith & Wessen small frame revolver. It's 9mm rimmed ammo looks like the .38 short Colt. The new revolver will be issues to Chinese cops in traffic, foot partol, public affair and admin duties. Currently those cops are unarmed. So, I guess something is better the nothing ... Chinese Military will buy the NewStar 2002 light wheeled APC

After People's Armed Police, 13 major provicial police departments, UN Peace Keepers and Bangladeshi bought the NewStar 2002 light APC, the PLA is finally decided it's good enought for them too. Most likely will be use for recon and light duty roles. Its chassis and engine are based on a German designed heavy duty commerical van manufactured by a privated Chinese truck company. Recently in Haiti, the NewStar 2002's side armor was pierced by .30-06 at close range. All the NewStar 2002 are getting ballistic spalling liner install. Noted that was probably the lighter 6-ton law enforcement model in Haiti. The better protected 8-ton military version has 10mm thick armor protection in the front arc. The NewStar 2002 offers direct mine and IED protection upto 25kg level. For a starting price of $120,000, the NewStar is cheaper than add-on armor kit for the US made Hummvv. --- Timothy Yan

Three Chinese military officers killed in terrorist bombings in Jordan

BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Three Chinese were killed and one wounded Wednesday evening in bomb attacks against three hotels in the Jordanian capital Amman, said a press release carried on the Website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

The dead and wounded were members of a delegation from China's University of National Defense, which happened to stay at one of the three hotels, the press release said.

The Foreign Affairs Office of China's Defense Ministry identified the dead as Sun Jingbo, Zhang Kangping and Pan Wei, whowere at the age of 41, 42 and 44, respectively.

The wounded, 42-year-old Yao Liqiang, suffered from a leg fracture. Yao was under medical treatment at a military hospital and was out of danger, according to the Foreign Affairs Office.

The other members of the delegation have been transferred to one of Jordan's military bases under the escort of the Jordanian army, the office said.

Officials with the Foreign Ministry said the delegation arrived in Amman on Thursday and checked in at the Days Inn hotel.

At around 9:00 p.m. local time Thursday night, the delegation, seeing no sign of tragedy, was backing to the hotel after attending a welcoming dinner at the Chinese embassy in Jordan.

The bomb blasted on the street four to five meters outside the hotel, killing one Chinese on the spot and wounding another three. Two of the three wounded died later in hospital.

The new Chinese FN MAG/M240 7.62mm GPMG knock off

It looks like Norinco is really trying hard to get the Iraqi and Afghan new army/police's re-equip order. Only few things are different than the real MAG: a simpler 3-stage gas regulator, the aluminum butt stock with buildin recoil buffer and the rear sight that has a quick-detachable optics mount. They didn't even bothered to actually improve the MAG design like change to a side ejection or replace it's titling block locking bolt or reduce its ungainly weight. In fact the Norinco copy weights even heavier than the real MAG.

The Chinese M4 Carbine Copy

Well, it did take long for the Chinese started to copy the American M4 design. I wonder if the Chinese going to pay royalty to Colt.......Of course NOT! When was the last time the Chinese arms industry give a crap about weapon design IP? If the price is right, maybe the US government will start buying the Chinese M4 copy for their Afghan, Iraqi and Pakistani allies. The last one will make the Indian very jealous for sure.

PLA on course to cut 200,000 personnel

PLA on course to cut 200,000 personnel

www.chinaview.cn 2005-07-15 08:21:17

BEIJING,July 15 -- People's Liberation Army (PLA) is on course to cut 200,000 military personnel by the end of the year, the PLA Daily, mouthpiece of China's armed forces, reported yesterday.

The military is currently carrying out extensive restructuring reform, adding new battle units and cutting outdated ones in an effort to create combat effectiveness and intensify the force's combat command capability, the report said.

The total number of officers at headquarters and functional branches at different command levels will be cut to a new low, and some grassroots posts previously held by officers will be transferred to soldiers or civil servants.

"The readjustment and reform programme is now proceeding smoothly," Zang Guoqing, head of the army affairs department with the PLA's Headquarters of the General Staff, was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

China announced in September 2003 that it would reduce its military from 2.5 million to about 2.3 million in two years.

Zang urged all military units to strictly abide by the restructuring plan as it was an important decision made by the Central Military Commission to optimize its military structure.

"Only when the new organizational system is well-implemented can we complete the task of reducing 200,000 military staff by the end of this year," Zang said.

He said that the headquarters had inspected several military commands and found some problems.

For example, in some cases the number of staff and vehicles were much more than allowed under the new system, and Zang urged them to make changes as required.

According to a white paper on China's national defence, released by the Information Office of the State Council late last year, the cuts will mainly affect officers and those from non-combatant institutions.

Since New China was established in 1949, the PLA has reduced in size nine times, with the total number of troops cut from 6.27 million in 1951 to 2.5 million in 2003.

According to the white paper, the PLA will optimize its structure by streamlining land forces and strengthening the development of navy, air and missile forces.
