Starting in 2010, more and more reports about PLAN sailors featured them wearing anti-flash gear in the background, indicating that they had finally followed a naval tradition dating back to the Battle of Jutland.
Anti-flash gear consists of fire-resistant hoods and fire-resistant gloves, which provide significantly better individual protection than the traditional gas masks.
