Below is a series of CCTV captures from China Army's Service Research Academy, where researchers showing off a handhold Gauss Gun.   Considering how small those ferromagnetic"needles" are, this little toy can carry a lot of "ammo" that packs no punch nor range. 

Not sure what the real military application here outside of academy research preparing for a pending alien invasion.    China Army -- I am telling you-- there's nothing to worry,  we all know that Alien is only interested in invading LA and/or Tokyo.  Ok, Ok, maybe London at times but never ever Beijing.

Z-20J, Naval SAR variant with aircraft ID

6xx1 cleanly indicates this Z-20J is commissioned into a new Naval Aviation unit yet to be ID-ed

JC-8F sporting the new two digit aircraft ID scheme

JC-8F is a tactic reconnaissance variant of the J-8F,  two main mods are conformal camera compartment replacing the twin 23mm gun compartment below the two jet intakes.  Underwing weapon hardpoints are also reduced from four to two, one per wing.    Some models of the JC-8F also equipped with refueling probe to enhance its operational range

Photos of the day: Sino-ized Sovremenny-class destroyer on patrol.

First pair commissioned into the PLAN China Navy in December 1999 and November 2000.  After a prolonged period of midlife upgrade, they are now back into 3rd Destroyer Flotilla, Eastern Theater Command Navy's orbat.

They ripped out everything - including the kitchen sink - out, leaving only the AK-130 automatic naval gun mounts in place.  Type54A's electronic warfare and radar suites are clearly visible

China Army Unit Of The Day: 42nd Combined Arms Brigade, 75th Group Army, Southern Theater Command

The 42nd - formerly 14GA Armor Brigade Chengdu MR - is swapping out their Type59D MBT with ZTL11 8x8 wheeled Assault Gun.     It is increasingly clean that the China Army will not replace their old fleet of Type59 with their latest ZTZ96, ZTZ99 and ZTQ15 on a one to one basis.

Some Southern units, would be better suited with mobile guns then traditional MBTs as the thinking goes

Note 9 tanks per each of the two columns,  that's three 3-tank platoons.   Where's tank platoon commander's tank?

Chinese "Civil Air Patrol"

Recently China's Tibet MD commissioned 5 units of "militia" into its rank.   Personally, I think the phase "militia" could be a mis-translation conjures a negative connotation of a bunch farmers and their Type56 semi-automatic carbines.    Those ex-PLA has their own chopper fleet and air traffic radar sites, providing air patrol as well as S&R operations, not exactly living on rice and beans here.

They are more aligned with the US "civilian auxiliary" "Civil Air Patrol" then the "people's militia" of the 1960 we knew and loved.
