Terraforming Woody Island.

Sure, this is not as a great as growing potato in Mars but the China Marine is now able harvest 1500 kg of veggie out of half acre of sandy beach at Woody Island.  The knowledge gained will help to terraform more sandy areas elsewhere such as the Gobi Desert (here)

Within the Law of the Sea, definition of an island, it states that a majority of an island's
sustenance must come from the island itself. The terraforming work on Woody will no doubt be
repeated on other locations in the South China Sea to enhance PRC's claim to those shoals and reefs as legitimate islands. The more vegetables the better. However, if they can terraform the Gobi some day, I'll be very impressed!
